Vallabhbhai Patel, Iron Man of India
Endeared as the Sardar, Vallabhbhai served as the first Deputy Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1950. He was appointed as the 49th President of Indian National Congress. He worked tirelessly to unify the country and bring the people together. His devotion to national integration in the newly independent country earned him the name “Iron Man of India”. He is even known as the “Unifier of India”. To commemorate his contribution towards Indian independence and his work in keeping up the nation’s unity, The Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, was dedicated to him on 31 October 2018. His birth anniversary is even celebrated as National Unity Day – Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
