Surendranath Banerjee, Political Leader

One of the earliest Indian political leaders during the British Rule, he founded a nationalist organization called the Indian National Association, through which he led two sessions of the Indian National Conference in 1883 and 1885, along with Anandamohan Bose. He is given the epithet of Rashtraguru. He later became a senior member of the Indian National Congress. He was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress. His name is commemorated in the names of the following institutions: Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya Surendranath College Surendranath College for Women Surendranath Evening College Surendranath Law College (formerly Ripon College) Surendranath Centenary School in Ranchi.
