The Symbol of Hope for the poor, destitute, diseased, and abandoned people, Mother Teresa was conferred with a number of honours, including the 1962 Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize and the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was canonized on 4 September 2016, and the anniversary of her death (5 September) is her feast day. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1962 by the Indian Government. She even bagged the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding in 1969. In the year 1980, she received the Bharat Ratna (India’s highest civilian award).
