Mohammad Shareef, Social Worker

Popularly addressed as Sharif Chacha, Mohammed Sharif happens to be an Indian bicycle mechanic and social worker from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is known for performing last rites for over 25000 unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies. Sharif visits police stations, hospitals, railway stations and mortuary for the unclaimed bodies. Police hands over the bodies to him after 72 hours of no one claiming it. He often faces financial problems and carries out the last rites of unclaimed bodies collecting donations. He also made an appearance in the Aamir Khan hosted TV show Satyamev Jayate. He was conferred with India’s fourth-highest civilian award the Padma Shri in 2020 for his contribution in social work.
