M. S. Subbulakshmi, Indian Singer

An Indian Carnatic singer from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, she was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. She is even the first Indian musician to bag the Ramon Magsaysay award which is considered as Asia’s Nobel Prize. M.S. Subbulakshmi started her Carnatic classical music training under her mother Shanmukhavadivu; and later in Hindustani classical training under Pandit Narayan Rao Vyas.
