Aruna Roy, Social Activist

Aruna Roy is an Indian social activist, professor, union organiser and former civil servant. She is the president of the National Federation of Indian Women and founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan. She is best known for her work against fighting corruption and promoting government transparency. She passed the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) examination in 1967. In 2005, she played a vital role in establishing the Right to Information Act (RTI). She has bagged many awards for her noble work which includes the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 2000, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academia and Management in 2010.
